Dear Researchers,
Over recent years I have been able to develop a reasonably comprehensive
history of the family of Sir Graham Berry.
Graham Berry spent much time in Geelong and yet there seems to be little
known about his first son James Berry. He was born in 1852 around one month
before their journey, on the Marlborough, to Port Phillip.
It seems that he was at Graham's funeral in 1901 but that is about the size
of his historical footprint. If anyone can provide an insight into James'
life I would be grateful.
Another member of the Berry family of interest is the wife of Benjamin
Berry. Benjamin was Graham's first Colonial son and he was to become the Sub
Treasurer based in White Hills. His wife Kate McIntosh Barthold was active
in politics. Kate's origins are a mystery. It seems that she was born in
Glasgow the daughter of John McIntosh who was either a Presbyterian Minister
or Bookbinder. His wife died during childbirth. From there it seems that
Kate was brought to Victoria by the Barthold's and became the adopted
daughter of Godfrey John Barthold and Isabella Coburn Low. It has been
suggested that the Barthold's were pilots in Geelong.
If anyone has any info on either of the above I would be grateful.
Yours sincerely
Brian Evans
