Thanks, Susie. Some great names there!
My question was rhetorical (Mother Blow's Corner is the bend in
Barrabool Rd where Thoroughbred Drive now enters it), and I was really
making the point that there are proper names and there are nicknames,
and trying to establish which sort "Highett Town" was.
I'm glad that David Fisher still has his Hill in some sources - he lost
his Street (McKillop St) and his Road (Mount Pleasant Road, Highton),
and now his Hill is Wandana Heights or The Lookout. I imagine the
Street and Road were official, but the Hill was probably more like a
nickname. As an important pioneer of the district, he deserves some
landmark. Roslyn Road of course was named after his Roslyn/Roslin
estate, but it's not so personal.
And, no, I don't know anything about Mrs Blow! (Cow Dung Alley was a
lane in Ceres village).
Cheers
Marion
