Jennifer,
Many thanks for those three look-ups. It is like Christmas has come early
this year!

The first response refers to my Laurence Webster and it has clarified which
Royal Hotel he was involved in.

The second response provides information that I lacked but based on other
information I hold the address at 88 Moorabool Street makes it certain that
this reference refers again to my Laurence Webster.

The third response probably refers to another WEBSTER family but it is very
interesting since his wife's parents (JOHN AND ELIZABETH GORRY) lived in
Coronation Street for many years. I need to study this further to see if
there is some connection.

Again many thanks.
Regards,
Russell Harrison

Three of the WEBSTER look-ups:

1. WEBSTER, Lawrence Geelong Hotels and their Licensees Page 50
Lawrence WEBSTER was granted a license in April 1848 for the Royal
Hotel, NE corner of Yarra and Corio Streets (not the Malop Street
Royal and not the Royal Mail, SE corner of Yarra and Corio). Abraham
LEVY took over after two months.

2. WEBSTER, L The History of Geelong and Corio Bay with Postscript
1955-1990
Page 344: In September 1872 Mathews Brothers bought out the butchery
business of Webster and Anderson at 88 Moorabool Street.
Page 588: The following advertisement was published in 1866 'Public
Notice. We the undersigned tradesmen agree to take Mr Richard
Parker's coppers in the ordinary course of business: J Walker Roberts
and Company; L Webster; Reeves Brothers; William Pardey; David Cook
for Lowe and McKenzie; Thomas N Couves; William Noble and Company.'
Parker's pennies were copper coins accepted by some as currency.

3. WEBSTER, family Geelong Region Historic Buildings and Objects Study

Prefabricated timber cottage, 22 Coronation Street Geelong West,
possibly constructed c1853-1854. The building remained in the
ownership of the WEBSTER family from 1870-1916.
