Hi All,
This is my first post to the list. I have recently found that families I am
researching seem to have come from the Geelong area & early marriages,
Christenings seem to be at the St Mary's RC Church. I have not done any
research in Geelong before but was pleased to see when looking through the
archives that this appears to be a very helpful & active list. Here is some
info on the families:

HETHERINGTON
I have a Joseph Down Hetherington christened St Mary's RC church in 1849.
He was the son of James Hetherington & Catherine DOWN/DEWIN/DUNE (depending
on what record you check). I have also found a sister Alice christened in
1852 at St Mary's.
Joseph Down Hetherington married Margaret Jane HARRISON in 1878 in Linton
Victoria.

HARRISON
Margaret Jane Harrison was born in 1861 Linton Victoria. She was the
daughter of John HARRISON (born Lancashire England) & Mary McDONALD (born
Iverness, Scotland). John Harrison & Mary McDONALD married in Geelong 1860
in St Mary's RC church. John was born in Lancashire about 1835 & was the
son of John Harrison & Nancy NIXON.

DOWN/DUNE/DEWIN
Catherine DOWN?DUNE?DEWIN who married James Hetherington in 1846 in St
Mary's Geelong was the daughter of Nicholas DOWN?DUNE?DEWIN & Catherine
COWAN. The index record for her death states she was born WATE. Would that
be Waterford, Ireland?

McDONALD
Mary McDONALD was born about 1832 in Iverness, Scotland & was the daughter
of Angus McDONALD & Mary McFEE. Witnesses at her wedding at St Mary's RC
church Geelong in 1860 were Margaret & Ronald CURRIE. Checking records for
this couple I have found that Margaret's maiden name was also McDonald, so
she is perhaps Mary's sister. She married Ronald CURRIE in 1858.

As you can see every record I check for these families seems to point back
to Geelong so I am hoping I may be able to have some success in finding
connections to others on the list.
