Hi Liz,

I don't disagree with anything you were sent or the information you
provided - it's still all valid as are my comments.

I believe the reference in the Argus Index to the Kensington Industrial
School relates to the suburb of Melbourne known as Kensington. To my
knowledge there has never been an Industrial Schools at Leopold
(Kensington).

The two Leopold / Kensington schools identified from various references and
histories are the Church of England Denominational School No. 349
(1854-c1871) and then the Leopold / Kensington State School No. 1146 (1872
to present).

Maude GOULDE (spelling as per records) attended the Leopold / Kensington
State School No. 1146. Her guardian's occupation was shown as "Industrial
School" - that would have nothing to do with the school that Maude was
attending and perhaps Mr HOPKINS was connected with the Geelong Industrial
School. Note that the Geelong Industrial School was not a great distance
from Leopold as it was in the Eastern part of Geelong on the main road to
Queenscliff which went through Leopold.

Was William Hopkins a relative at all? Or was Maude "assigned" to the
Geelong Industrial School and boarded / fostered out to William Hopkins?

Hope that helps ........... Susie Z
