Hello to Marion Stainsby & others,
I've been interested in the
emails recently to the list re the JOHNS family. Harriet Ellen JOHNS married
29.6.1882 in Highton,Geelong to John Wilkins HARRISON born 14.7.1856 in
Banyuke in the
district of Tower Hill / Belfast..now Port Fairy. Well, John is the
brother of my great grandmother Esther HARRISON born 6.4.1849 in Fen
Stanton,Huntingdon., England. a twin of Harriet who married into the Tomkins
family. Esther had my grandmother Elizabeth Alice Maud HARRISON on
17.8.1876 & she married 30.4.1904 to Edwin CHANT. Esther also had a son
Charles Persen (Percy) HARRISON 16.5.1882 who married c1908 to Nessie
Rogers.
The "Persen", Charles's 2nd name probably comes from "Persian" the ship
Esther & family came out on. Esther married 29.10.1890 to Frederick
Wm.CLARKE in
South Geelong.
I was pleased to see all the siblings of Harriet JOHNS & have now
added them to my file.
-------------------------------
Now re the HOBBs line. Louisa Jane (Louie) JOHNS married 1882 in Highton
to Edwin Walter (Ted) RANKIN.
In my files I have Ted's parents as Walter RANKIN & Sarah Austin HOBBS
1852-1927. Sarah's parents are John Lowe HOBBS 1826 & Ann AUSTIN. I have
HOBBs back to a marriage 23.1.1759 of a John HOBBS to an Elizabeth BELLAM
possibly in Bucks. Edwin HOBBS born 1822 is the brother of Sarah Austin
HOBBS's father John Lowe HOBBS.
Years ago many Geelong surnames used to come up in conversation at my
grandma Chant's home at 2 Frederick Street Newtown, now Cumberland St. I
didn't know then if they were family or friends, but I know now.
Hope I haven't bored people with the above.
Regards,
Janette Pfeifer nee Grundy born in Geelong too.
