Pam,
not sure of the exact years but have been told that one of my husbands early
settlers on maribynong had 2 large dogs tied up near the tent to keep away
unwanted guests.
Same person supposedly tied up the children under the bed when they went to
river to collect water or do the washing !!!
Also to keep them away from the dogs we assume so this is fairly early but
no a definite ref sorry.
I have to wonder about how much care they got though, seeing the conditions
some immigrants had.
I could imagine some people bringing dogs to guard their property on board
even.
Interesting aspect of early life here though.
