Dear Listers, especially Pam and Susie

I'm having some eye trouble, so will pass on the scraps I have
collected about this family, as I obviously know less about them than
you do. My printer is playing up, so I can't print out what bits I
have, as the enquirer doesn't have e-mail, though I'll phone him up.

Stewart McAdam's index cards and his Notes and Jottings are not
detailed references, but I'll paste them in as he recorded them for
his own use. Note that he lists McPhersons from Gnarwarre also, but
merely queries if they are related.

Card Index:
> There is a card headed “McPherson, John . Mt Moriac”, with a wife
> Janet and children Elizabeth 1859-1923 & Janet. He lists as
> references the Electoral Roll 1856 (“See also Alex McPherson Elect
> Roll 1856”), the Geelong Shipping Register, Poundkeeper’s Register
> p. 7 1869, and Mount Moriac Cemetery Records: John 1825-1869.
>
> There’s another card for McPherson, Alex, Gnarwarre, with Mary
> (McDonald) 1822-1910, and “Children Janet 1862. Alex, Donald. &
> Catherine; Refs Mary McIntosh / Picton St Geelong West (descendant)”
> but no other details. There are two other cards, one of which says
> “McPherson, Allan Modewarre. Refs Advertising Sale 1853. p. 356” –
> but no hint what book the page is in. Another card just says
> “McPherson, Ewen, Poundkeeper’s register p.3 – 1869.”

Notes & Jottings:

> 1853 Lost. 2 yr old d. of John McPherson. Mt Moriac. Reward of 20
> pounds. (Believed to have been found dead later).
> 1879 May 31 Died at Geelong – Don McPherson 20, Buried Mt Moriac.
> 1867 Advertisement – Neil Ross Gladfield Mt Pollock – rich grazing
> property 14 miles Geelong. 320 acres. One third broken up. Owner

> McPherson and others.
> 3/67 [March 1867?] A. McDonald. Mt M. 320 bus. oats 8 acres, same
> with wheat. McPherson also 20 to acre.
> 1880 Feb 28 In hospital – Charles Wilson 23 of B/Hills. Allen
> McPherson 16 of Mt Pollock.
> 21/12/1863 Married at Barrabool Manse – John McPherson, Duneed, to
> Annabella McRae d. of Tom of Gherang.
> 1854 McPherson, Robt., B/H Rd [Comment by M. Stainsby: this was
> in Highton – apparently an investment for subdivision.]
> McPherson family – Alexander McPherson m. Mary McDonald 1822-1910.
> Had Chn. Janet, Alex, Donald, Catherine. Descendant Mary McIntosh 1
> Picton St, G. West. May be Mt Pollock family. Or early Mt Moriac.
> 1883 3/4 In hospital – Janet McPherson 20 of Gnarwarre.
> 1886 7/5 Married B/bl Pres Church – Wm Gear to Cath. McPherson d. of

> Bannockburn.

Other scraps from the internet:
Re passengers on the "Success" listed by Susie, there is also an Ann
McPherson aged 24 in 1852.

Could this last possibly have been a mishearing of "McWHANNELL"?? I
can't find another Death for Donald.

Note that I have the Death entry Robyn gave for
> MCPHERSON John
> Father: Donald
> Mother: Janet CAMERON
> Age: 42
> Birth Place: INVE
> Year: 1869
> Reg Number: 9917
with the additional line:
Spouse: McWHENNELL, Janet.

There is also, for what it's worth, a Death for
McPHERSON, Duncan
Father: ", Jno
Mother: McRAE, Ann
Age: 86
Death place: Hton
Year: 1903
Reg: 13586

Cf the above, Susie has the children of John and Janet as:
John, born c.1849, Scotland
Janet, born c.1853, Victoria
Elizabeth, born c.1855, Duneed, Victoria
Donald, born c.1857, Duneed Victoria
Children shown as living in 1865
This does not match up with a 2-year old daughter being lost in 1853.
But could there have been a Janet who died and had a sister namedafter
her? This story certainly would give them something to be remembered
by, even if poor John and his three wives all died within
13 years of their hopeful arrival, being later overshadowed by the HAM
family.

What happened to John Junior?
John's second and third wives probably died in childbed. See © 2010

And that's all I can say about the McPHERSONs.

Best wishes to all!
