The Gippsland Time Line is posted to the list in irregular posts - if anyone
has any additions, corrections or suggestions, please feel free to engage in
historical discussion! :) Some of you may even come up with important dates
I have missed. Some state, national and world events are included for
comparison.

Gippsland Chronology to 1899". It is posted for private study only.

15 Feb: Rev Bean meets Bishop Perry at The Ridge (near Rosedale) to
accompany him and Mrs Perry around Gippsland.
3 Jun: Rev Bean ordained in the Anglican Church and officially appointed to
Gippsland.
29 Jun: Phillip Harris McArdell appointed Chief Constable at Sale, holding
the position until about 1852.
4 Jul: Records commence for Alberton Cemetery.
unk: John Williamson's survey of the Mitchell River
unk: George Smythe's survey of the natural entrance to the Gippsland Lakes.
unk: William Tennant Dawson arrives in Gippsland as Assistant Surveyor.
Returns in 1853 as District Surveyor.
unk: Rabbits released near Geelong.
unk: Whittakers family at Tubbut.
unk: C.J. Tyers marries Georgina Scott.
unk: Refusal of landing for last party of convicts sent to Port Phillip.

5 Aug: An Act "For the Better Self Government of Her Majesty's Australian
Colonies' passed in England, providing for the separation of Victoria and
New South Wales.
6 Aug: Notice of first sale of land at Flooding Creek, under the town name
of Sale.
unk: Brodribb River massacre of Aborigines near Orbost.
unk: William Brodribb re-occupies Mallacoota
unk: Ewing brothers take up Merrangbaur at Lakes Entrance. One drowned,
other to Geelong. Two men left behind murdered by Aborigines.
unk: Port Albert officially declared the Port of Entrance and Clearance.
unk: Bennison takes out a licence for Yanakie and Corner Inlet runs.
unk: Macalister sells Boisdale to John Foster.
