Hi All,

I have been following the discussion re orphanages. When my gggrandmother
died in childbirth (1856), my ggg'father supposedly sent their four young
children to board at "Mrs Carpenter's School". Some family members say
this was at Sale, others Port Albert......does anybody know which? It is
reported that Mrs Carpenter used stinging nettles as a cane on the
children's legs and that Sarah Jane Stratford McLAREN remained on as a
monitor at the school and later a teacher. Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
