Kim and Tom,
I'm sure that we are all curious to know where "the real Merriman's Creek"
is/was.
Was it a minor tributary of the Tanjil River, somewhere near the Russell's
Creek goldfield?
There is a very good account of the Baw Baw Goldfields in the book "The
Changing Years" (Joyce Erbs and Marie Nation, Traralgon, 1972), pp 6-12.
Their maps show a huge number of tributaries of the Tanjil, such as Good
Hope Creek, Russell's Creek, Bull Beef Creek, Icy Creek and Hawthorn Creek -
but no sign of Merriman's.
