Hi Rosemary,

Can't help with MIs or Cem look-up but they look terribly scottish to me.

Do you have any certs at all?

Walt GARDNER m Jane ROBERTS 1853 #31748, Christ Church of St. Kilda. Even
though it's a church doc it should have parents name and place of birth on
it.

So very often than not death info is unreliable. You're better with
info that was given while they were alive.

If the marriage cert does not have the right info which sometimes happens,
the first birth after 1855 is often a winner. So possibly Margaret's birth
cert 1855, #10234 would have where the parents were born and where they
arrived in Australia.

I mentioned they looked very scottish. Jane Roberts used Wylie which I
would suggest is most probably her mother's mother's name. ie Jane was
named after her maternal grandmother suggesting that she was the first girl
born to her parents.

My Pioneer recs have -

Sophia Neilson ROBERTS, d 1874, 69y, born Edinburgh, to Geo NEILSON and Jane
WYLIE

The LDS site has -

Sophia NEILSON m James ROBERTS 7 Jun 1832 Edin Parish. Sophia b 11 Oct 1804
to above parents.

Couldn't find any children in SCT, but three in Melbourne-
Thomas A, 1840 #V184010547 Campbellfield Pres
Sophia 1842,#1842215047 Campbellfield Pres
Marg't Nielson, 1846 #8016 Coll, Melb Pres

and deaths-

Marg't Nielson d 1874 (26) Coll
Wm Frazer d 1876 (38) born Edin
Sophia (MILLAR) d 1927 (84) Melb S
Jas Neilson d 1899 (62) Cham

Tried to find their entry to AUS which is before 1840 but to no avail on the
VIC PRO or State Recs NSW sites, crosses my mind that SA could be a
possibility. Not there either.

I have reference in a book to a Jas Roberts ship's carpenter/wright. If
they do turn out to be yours - this might be of relevance.

My theory on the name WYLIE is just that - a theory - I think you need more
info from the marriage and/or birth certs.

Good hunting!
