Hi Lisa
Robert George Ferguson McKenzie was born in Yarram on the 12th September
1908, the son of William McKenzie and Mary Appleyard. Robert married Ethel
Maud Hulley on the 28th April 1927 at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in
Yarram.
Ethel was born at Hiawatha (not far from Yarram) on the 30th November 1908
and died on the 11th February 1967 in Sale (about 75km east of Yarram).
She's buried in the Heidelberg Cemetery, Melbourne.
Robert died at Prince Henry's Hospital in Melbourne on the 9th November 1951
and is buried with his wife.
Robert & Ethel had the following children:
George Ellis Ferguson McKenzie b. 30th Oct 1927 d. 9th Mar 1997
William Bannan McKenzie b. 12th Apr 1929
Raymond Leslie McKenzie b. 30th Sep 1930 d. 6th Nov 1981
Robert Arnold McKenzie b. 20th Oct 1931 d. 22 Oct 1931
Ronald Gordon McKenzie b. 28th Apr 1933

You're quite correct that Robert & Leslie Gordon McKenzie were indeed
brothers.
Leslie was born at Yarram on the 5th Jan 1912 and married Edith Doreen
Hulley on the 26th Apr 1936 in Sale, Vic. Edith was born 13th Dec 1915 at
Drouin, Vic.
Leslie died at Warragul Hosptial on the 10th April 1991 and is buried in
Drouin.
Leslie & Edith had the following children;
Elaine Edith Mary McKenzie b. 15th July 1930
Barry Gordon McKenzie b. 1 May 1938
Graeme Douglas McKenzie b. 24 Jun 1943

Anyway, going back to their father William McKenzie.. he was born in
Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland, on either the 17th or the 20th
September 1863, the 4th child of John McKenzie and Catherine (nee Ferguson).
They all arrived in Vic in Dec 1870 on the 'Great Britain' also travelling
with them were Johns parents William & Isabella (nee Tindall) and 2 of Johns
brothers and one of his sisters. They were the last of the family of Wm &
I'bella to arrive in Aust, the rest of their children (except one) having
arrived slowly over the previous 13yrs or so.

I'm pretty sure i have a photograph somewhere of William & Mary's grave in
the Yarram Cemetery somewhere, and i know there are definitely Hulley's
buried in the same cemetery too.

I can give you quite a few generations back on the McKenzie's, not so with
the Hulley's i'm afraid though. There are a few of us who have been
researching the McKenzie's for quite a number of years, I can put you in
contact with them also if you wish.

Oh, by the way i should probably tell you where i fit in.. my husband Tim's
great-grandfather Donald Thomson McKenzie and your fathers great
grand-father John McKenzie were brothers. (Though we are most probably a lot
closer to your age).

Anyway, this is a good start. It's great to see another McKenzie descendant
who is interested in all of this!!
Best wishes
Lois McKenzie

> I am looking for information relating to my grandfathers family who lived
in the Yarram,Maffra,Sale area.
> My Grandfather was Robert George Ferguson McKenzie Born in Yarram about
1907. In 1927 he married Ethel Maude Hulley born 1907 in Toora. She was one
of 11 children born to Ethel and David Hulley. Her sister Elsie Hulley
married Lesley Gordon McKenzie around the same time. I'm not sure if Robert
McKenzie and Lesley McKenzie were brothers or cousins.
> Robert and Ethel had 5 sons, William, George, Robert(died in infancy),
Raymond(my father, 1930 - 1981) and Ronald. The boys went to school I think
in Yarram and the family farmed in the district up until the mid to late
1940's.
> I think that Roberts parents were William McKenzie (born1872) and Mary
Appleyard (born 1876).
> I know that my great grandmother, Ethel Maude Hulley (nee White) lived in
Sale up until her death in 1986 at the age of 102.
