My Mothers birth certificate in second column (Date and Place of Birth)
shows:
4th August 1912
Tinamba
Shire of Maffra
County of "Taujil".
Also Postcode book has Tinamba listed with postcode of 3859.
The area has been subject to bushfires over the years and possibly any pre
existing town has been destroyed in one of these fires. Check for newspaper
reports. My grandfather was listed as being a bridgebuilder and would
probably have lived in a town residence or small property only and not a
farm. Have not visited the particular area, and then never went to
'Tinamba', in over 40 years so cannot help from a personal aspect.
http://www.ga.gov.au/bin/gazm01?placename=Tinamba&placetype=0&state=VIC
Lists Tinamba as:
Town or Locality with Official Status
Parish (Lookout)
Railway Station
Building
Fire Station

Obviously from this site Tinamba is still alive and well, to some degree
anyway.

I have a death certificate for my 3G grandfather d. 1866 in Tinamba
so the place name was in use then.
Cheers, Ian
