Dear Listers,
I was wondering whether SKS could answer a question for me. I have just
purchased a Death Certificate for my John REID who died 3/3/1873 at the
Geelong Hospital and is buried at the East Geelong Cemetery, in the same
grave as his daughter, Christina HORNSEY (nee REID).
My dilema is that on John's D/C, states he was "Single" and shows, of
course, no children born to him. He died aged 83yrs, putting his DOB
Abt 1790 which could be correct for Christina's father. John married a
Mary FOTHERINGHAM(possible birth 1796) in Dunfermline, Fifeshire
9/12/1821(puts this John as 31 yrs when he married) and they had Grace
b.1827, Mary b.1830 and Christina b.1833.
Questions:
1. If this John is the Father of Christina - why "Single" on D/C.
2. Are there records available for burials which may give further
details.
3. Are there patient records available for the Geelong Hospital back in
1873.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has ideas, my mind gone blank
trying to think this one out.
Kind regards, Sue (Tropical North Queensland, Australia)
