Dear Muzz, (and any of the other dozens of people with this kind of
query)
the place listed on the marriage indexes in Victoria is the birthplace
of the person listed first, if you want to double check, just look at
the same marriage with the other person first.

P.S. it doesn't help that the "Australian Vital Records Index" lists the
place as event place instead of birthplace.
