Hello Bob

Kurting is roughly about 5km north west of Inglewood on the Calder Highway
heading towards Wedderburn. "Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of the Powlett
Plains Hall - Back to of Powlett Plains, Kurting, Glenalbyn, Salisbury West
Districts" mentions the Kurting school opened in 1878 and from the 1890's
fortnightly services were held at the school by the Anglican parishioners.
The Spring Creek Hotel was apparently located near Sam Roberts' house (on
the Calder Highway) - a spring and two pepper trees remain near the
vicinity. "Mr Charles D'Aubert Leech, who had carried on farming operations
in the Boort District, came to Kurting and for a considerable period,
conducted the Spring Creek Hotel, in which capacity he was well known. Mr
Leech also owned threshing anc chaff-cutting machines, and travelled
throughout a very wide area in plying the operations incidental to farming
work in these directions. Other licencees of the Spring Creek Hotel were T.
O'Toole" (one of my lot), "Clara E Rae in October 1911, and Estha Rickard on
May 7, 1912."

The Kurting railway station combined with a post office was built around
1910 and the Kurting Hall was not constructed until 1918.

Kind Regards
