My GGrandfather JOHN SMITH left Maryborough in a dray with a friend to return home to Bung Bong on 30 Sept 1858. They called at the Adelaide Lead Hotel for several 'Brandy hots' and later went on to the Halfway House Hotel where they had some more glasses. After leaving there late in the evening John Smith was killed while crossing a creek when the dray overturned crushing him.
I wonder if some one can find out the location of the Halfway House Hotel. The inquest was held there as well on 2 Oct 1858. My guess is that it is on the Old Maryborough-Avoca Road - but where?
John
