Hi Lyn,
By strange coincidence, I had my McKenzie file out and was looking at the
information on Sir John QUICK as my emails were coming through.
I found his autograph and verse in my grandmother's autograph album some
time ago and wondered why it would be there and who he was.
Sir John Quick b 1852, St. Ives Cornwall, was a lawyer, politician and
author . He was knighted in 1901 for his outstanding contribution to
Federation. He published the Annotated Constitution of the Australian
Commonwealth described as a 'monumental tome' including a valuable history
of the Federation movement.
Try the following website for his history:
http://www.cofq.qld.gov.au/john_quick.html
Taken from Australian Dictionary of Biography,Volume 11 M.U.P.
I think this probably came from a www.google.com search.
There is another article from the Bendigo Advertiser on:
http://home.vicnet/~bendcorn/quick_film.html
This describes the disovery of rare film footage of Sir John speaking.
There is also a picture of him.
Sir John Quick died on17.6.1932 at his Campberwell home and was buried in
Back Creek cemetery, Bendigo. Can't help with any information about his
wife.
So happy to be able to help someone on this list for a change. I am the one
usually asking for assistance!
Cheers, Judy................Perth. W. Australia
