Hi Everyone!

My trigger finger got to the punch way before the brain
engaged this morning, so I apologise for my draft
note going to the List without my intro!

As mentioned, I am starting to look at Douglas in the
Bathurst Creswick area and have started to browse List
archives in an attempt to pick up Douglas connections!

Names - John Roy Douglas - my gf b Sept 1897
Bathurst
James E ? Douglas - ggf
"Nip" Nellie - aka Helen F (Forsyth?) Douglas nee
Douglas also
Sinclair E Douglas gggf

I understand that Helen F may have died around 1897
or so - perhaps 1900 leaving 3 small children, the
youngest being a few days old.

I also understand that James E may have married
Helen's sister?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

my maternal
grandfather was John Roy Douglas, b Ballarat Sept
1897 to James E Douglas & Helen F Douglas of Reed
Street, Creswick. He was one of three children, with
his mother dying (I assume between 1897 - 1900)
leaving a child a few days old.

I have the original funeral notice and mention in the
newspaper of that time has the spelling of Douglas
with the additional S.

James' father was Sinclair E Douglas - and apart from
that I know nothing!

Helen's maiden name, I think, was also Douglas - she
was known as 'Nip Nellie' or Nellie Douglas and I have
her family bible inscribed to Nellie Douglas from A E F
10/6/91.

I think - mainly from Ballarat and Creswick.I also have
a letter of introduction from Nellie's Minister, Edmund
Turner at the United Methodist Free Church, Ballarat
dated Jan 22, 1884 to be handed to a Minister in
Melbourne (unknown where)

I think, James, having been left with 3 small children,
married again - (vague recollection may have been
sister of Helen (nellie)?) John Roy Douglas' sister was
Ada Douglas and she would have been born around
late 1880s early 1890s.

Your mention to me of Sarah Sherwood being a
Douglas, reminded me of my grandfather's side.. and
wouldnt it be a strange thing if they were part and
parcel of the same tribe?

I havent had time to research Grandpas side as yet..
but am dying to find out the goss!
