Hello Donna,

Well, this is a strange one!

The Probate fiche give the death as 25/5/1898, probate at 8/7/1898, yes.

No death in cdroms for 1898, but a death for 1899 of
Elizabeth CASTLEY died 1899 No 2345 age 80 years of Lexton, father Alex
NORRIS, mother Elizabeth unknown

Because I am also an old researcher, I have "old technology" and so I went
to the death microfiche which I bought many years ago (very expensive):

Listed in 1898 was CASTLEY John, father Thomas, mother Elizabeth SLEIGH, of
Lexton age 74

BUT !!!
THE ORIGINAL NUMBER FOR 1898 OF 8307 HAS A LINE THROUGH IT, AND IN THE
PREVIOUS COLUMN IS WRITTEN:

2304 / 03

And, as you have discovered already, his death is re-recorded in 1903,
number 2304 !

If this was my bod, I'd say, to hell with the expense, and get both
certificates.

And you want the real image, not a typed computer transcript.

I've never come across this before.

I'll leave it with you to solve, and could you get back to me on it? Even
if you only get one of the certificates? I'd love to know the answer, and
when I have time I'll go through a few microfiche to see if this type of
entry occurs elsewhere.

Regards Ada
