Hi Jenny,

Your Cemetery Register entry could also mean the purchase of the
compartment for burial later, when he or she dies. The date of purchase
of the compartment will not necessarily be the date of death of the
person purchasing.

There are a lot of purchased plots in country cemeteries only half
full, especially where the family has moved away and not taken
advantage of the ancestors purchase, or father/mother died and
mother/father remarried and was buried with second spouse.

Many graves were public graves which means they were not paid for by the
family and are still owned by the Cemetery Trust, thus making it
difficult for descendants to erect monuments on them.
