Dear List,
I have my g.g.grandfather listed in Bailliere's Directory of 1880/81 as Tou
Ah James, Fancy Goods Repository, The Crescent, Talbot. Then 1884 - 1894 he
was listed as a Draper, The Crescent, Talbot.

After checking the Talbot Rate Books of 1879 I found he was paying water
rates on a shop in The Crescent owned by John Medley (Saddler), spelling of
the surname was now "To Wah".

Rate Books show 1896-1904 To Wah, Hawker/Gardner paying rates as tenant on a
building owned by Henry Thompson - Garden Cottage, Heales St. Talbot.

James To Wah did not appear on electoral rolls for this period.

Born: circa 1831 in Xin Hui, Canton, China
Father: Hai Kwong. Mother: unknown.

Married: 2/4/1879 in Presbyterian Church, Talbot to Mary Griffiths, whose
parents were George Griffiths and Mary Drew. At the time of her marriage
she was described as a "miner's daughter" and was given away by her
stepfather, Camilla Cross. Witnesses at the wedding were Daniel Kin Sing
and A Lundberg. The Minister was John Nicol.

James was 47 and Mary was 18 years of age.

James To Wah died 25/07/1904 and was buried at Amherst Cemetery in an
unmarked grave.

They had 3 children:
William James Toowar
Henry Toowar
George Toowar

Born 25/5/1880 at Talbot
Married Margaret Ellen Reidy 5/10/1903 at St. Patrick's, Ballarat
Died circa 1971, Fairfield, Victoria.

At the time of William's marriage his surname had changed to "Tuah" and he &
Margaret Reidy had 5 children.

2. William Bernard Tuah
3. Mavis Mary Tuah
4. Elma Annie Tuah
5. Marjorie Jean Tuah

2.1 William Bernard Tuah was born 28/10/1905 in Maryborough.
Married Henrietta Florence Sertori on 18/04/1936 at St. Anthony's
Church, Fairfield.
Died 14/04/1997 at Noble Park. Henrietta died 3/03/2003 in
Clarinda.
They had 5 children:

2.1.2 Wilma Blance Tooher
2.1.3 Janice Marie Tooher
2.1.4 Lynette Margaret Tooher
2.1.5 Lawrence Gerard Tooher
