Thanks Tom & Ada for your responses to my query. I am sorry I didn't mention the dates.
The land was granted around 1900, and my g grandfather was Daniel MacDonald.
We have so far looked at the rates books at WHS & that is all. The map I got from Titles
Office was Macedon, County of Bourke. The Woodend rates books say West Riding.
We found reference to the property with my ggrandfather as the occupying tenant, Gov of
Vic as the owner. The property was listed as cottage & land, NAV 4 pounds, and the first
entry we found was 1901 rateable year & unfortunately it was in arrears.
The family story goes that my g grandfather took up the land grant , remained for a while,
then took the family back to the city & left my grandfather on the grant in order to retain it
- a condition of the grant was apparently that someone had to be living on it at all times or
it would be relinquished. As the story goes my grandfather apparently got bored there by
himself & decided to go north sheep shearing, thus leaving the grant untenanted & they
lost the property. What we are attempting to find out is if this is indeed the case & also
exactly where the grant of land was situated.
Regards
Heather

What time frame are we talking about, please? Parish name? (taken from
your
maps) Name of your grantee?
