Since this incident I've sworn to never put anything "risque" on there again unless I have the express permission of any living family who might be affected by what I upload. Fortunately for me, John (the upset brother) went through my site and realised that I only do all the work I do on my site because I'm trying to HELP families to find their family history, NOT to hurt anyone!!

Rob, and others,

I have been re-reading the recent thread about writing and publishing
family histories and have been particularly absorbed by Tom's thoughtful
essays and the direction of his thinking.

Another thing struck me too: Unless I missed mention of it, no one wrote
about the experience of publishing to the internet via a personal web
site such as those offered by most ISPs, Geocities, or other
genealogy-specific sites.

So, Rob, I am pleased to hear about your website, family ructions not
withstanding. I wonder if you or others could let us know about the
excitment and the pitfalls (including angry rellies) of publishing your
history on the net?

I use the LDS progam, 'Personal Ancestral File' (PAF) even though I
bought, some years ago, 'Ultimate Family Tree' I love its simplicity and
the 'cleanliness' of its screens and printouts.

However, when I went into its "Create Website" area, and generated a
Website for uploading, I was really disappointed. It produces
Ahnentafel and Modified Register reports, and you can create your own
Custom Report, but all of them generate boring, mechanical reports with
no robust original writing. I would want much more control over the
reports and writing that appeared on my site.

I would be interested to hear about Family Histories which members have
put up on websites and how they think they differ from print versions.
