A belated thank you for the trouble you took.

I have James Clark and Anne Remington's (nee Snibson) record of marriage on
which James says that he was a widower 1898 with 6 living children and 1
deceased. He was born in Muckleford to John Clark and Jane Lea.

It seems that I must track down the name of his first wife, as it was
apparently not Sarah Poole.

Interesting that James' marriage rego states he was born in London. I
found the entry of a James William Clark born
in Mucklesford... are you sure they're the same person?

I cannot find any children for James Clarke & Sarah Poole, nor could I
find Sarah's death prior
to 1905. I also checked for Sarah's death or children to 1985.

There are a couple of Sarah Clark's dying with 'parents unknown'.
However, you would think that James
would not have forgotten his wife's maiden name in such a short time. :)

It probably would be helpful if you purchased Clark & Poole's marriage
certificate from 1888. Victorian BDM's are
only $17.

The marriage certificate should state both Clark & Poole's parents names,
which will help kick-start
your research. :)
