Hi Karen,
There were so many McMahons in co. Clare that would have been related it is
hard to trace their connections.
My Ellen McMahon actually married a land owner Jonas Studdert. In fact his
whole family were landowners, and High Sheriffs and JPs too. Her maiden name
is also written as Mahon someplaces, so that makes it even harder.
Their daughter, Frances Jane Studdert, immigrated to Melbourne in 1856 with a
married sister and married there herself in 1856.
I have traced her descendants in Victoria and her father's back to 1650s in
Ireland, but Mahon/McMahon is harder.
Does your brother in law have any email address where I could contact him?
Maybe he has a story I should check out.
I thought your Crottys might be related to this Limerick Crotty, since
Limerick and Tipperary are next door to each other! The date the will was
granted is 13th April, 1867, but only mentions his wife no other family.
