Hi Joy,
Sorry, I didn't take notice of your earlier emails re Goodall.

Are you only chasing Goodalls in Victoria? Are you interested in Goodalls
in South Australia?

From a pamphlett I found in SA on the statue of the soldier from the Boer
War, on a horse in North Terrace, Adelaide.

George Henry Goodall was born in 1872 as a descendant of pioneers who
arrived in South Australia in 1839. Qualities standing out in early life
were his
ability to break and ride any horse and the respect in which his workmanship
as a blacksmith and farrier was held.

With the First South Australian Contingent already despatched for South
Africa, an order was given to raise a mounted unit for war service. George
Henry Goodall was appointed Farrier Sergeant in this Second Contingent and
received a further promotion to the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant in
October 1900.

When George returned to Adelaide, he continued his association with horses.
He was known as a remarkable colt-shoeing blacksmith.
George Goodall died in 1942, but is immortalised by the bronze statue.

LOCATION
Corner of North Terrace and King William Road, Adelaide.

One of my distant rellies was married to George Goodall's son.

Cheers,
Betty
