An interesting read is John McQuilton's book - "Rural Australia and the
Great War from Tarrawingee to Tangambalanga".

In one of the posts Lenore Frost included a link to an Australian War
Memorial website that has a recent article exploring WWI enlistment from
the North East looking at their occupation, religion and other general
demographics. It is a very interesting article and includes details of
other social forces happening in the North East at that time.
