Hello All,

My query is in relation to 19th century marriage consent forms. A Betsy
LUCKETT married a Robert Simon SCOTT on 18 December, 1853 (see below).

I have a copy of this early church record and note that the marriage is by
licence and that the consent is given by a Daniel BOYD. Now my question is,
are 19th Victorian consent forms held by any Victorian government authority
and if so, have they been indexed or transcribed?

Elizabeth SCOTT went on to become the first woman to be hanged in Victoria
and I’ve been researching her case for many years. Daniel BOYD does not
appear to have any genealogical connection to Elizabeth SCOTT and I’m
wondering how it came to be that he could give consent to the marriage. I
understand that in Victoria in 1853 that persons who could give consent were
a father, or if the father was dead, a guardian or if no guardian, a mother
if living and unmarried. If no mother, a guardian or guardian could be
appointed by the Supreme Court. Now if Daniel BOYD was appointed as
Elizabeth’s guardian by the Supreme Court, have you any idea where I could
find record of same?
