I just found an interesting titbit about my ancestor William Edward
COLSTON from Barnawartha:

In 1878 he had the largest bullock in Australia according to the
Australian Dictionary of Dates & Men of the Time by J H Heaton:
BULLOCKS largest in Australia, property of Mr William Edward Colston of
Barnawartha, Victoria, turned the scale at 3948 lb or 35 cwt 1 qr;
height 6 ft 1 in; length 11 ft 9 in; girth 9 ft 10 in; at belly 10 ft 11
in; hocks 2 ft 1½ in; arm 3 ft; yoke 7 ft 8 in; age 8 years, 1878.

[Archive CD Book Ref AU 0004. Australian Dictionary of Dates & Men of
the Time, Part II - Dictionary of Dates, page 44 (accessed at the AIGS,
Blackburn, 11 Nov 2006)]

Presumably he had a bullock team to assist in moving stone for his trade
as a stone mason.

I wonder how they knew he had the biggest in Australia and if there were
agricultural shows held in those days. If so, which papers might have
reports?
