A public meeting was held in the local hall on the night of Friday, the 6th inst. to inaugurate a branch of the Peoples Party. Mr. G. MUEGEL, who was voted to the chair ably filled that position. Mr. Harold SMITH, of Lower Norton, addressed the meeting at some length, describing in detail the objects and policy of the party. After some discussion it was decided to at once form a branch. Mr. MUEGEL after much persuasion consented to be president. Mr. ASPLIN who is a very energetic worker for the party was elected vice president. Mr. Fred LANE, jnr., accepted the position of secretary, and Mr. Harry OVERALL that of treasurer. Mr. SMITH
(secretary of Vectis branch) was present at the meeting, and handed over to the Quantong secretary the names of a number of members, who reside near Quantong. Mr. Harold SMITH was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Messrs. LILLYWHITE and ASPLIN for his presence, which necessitated travelling over many miles of rough country and returning home in the dark.
