Hi Beryl
I'm quiet because I'm busily getting things inputted so I can send them back
to my parents, & get organised, filed, & just totally up to date.
I just looked at the photo of my grandmother's school in 1914, & they seemed
to have a youngish looking teacher. I suppose anything was possible back
then - I don't imagine they had a mandatory retirement age, and I've
recently seen a doctor who must have been 80 at least - a married woman
seems less likely to me, but I'm not very experienced at all this...

I would put in a phot as "believed to be", and ask for input from others.
In an Isle of Wight site (oops, 2 sites) recently they had many unknown
photos and many believed to be's - somewhere on these pages for example..

more pics from above site, some need names.

Gordon's page of old photos - lots unknown - ask my father to check.
My notes added for my own reference on the end.

Beryl - did your O'Gorman's come from county Clare? I have one O'Gorman
coming to Australia, but I'm getting myself organised before I search more -
too many brick walls in Ireland unless you have a specific parish...

Warmest wishes

Subject: [AUS-VIC-NorWest] A couple of questions

Hello All

Very quiet out there at the moment. Can anyone comment, or does anyone have
an example, of a married woman of 70 teaching in a Victorian Primary School
circa 1908? Likely? Unlikely?

Second question: If you had a photo that you believed to be someone but were
not 100% sure (the one and only photo), would you publish it in a family
history as "believed to be" or would you leave well alone and not publish it
at all?

Appreciate your thoughts
