WEDDING BELLS
MACKAY--BARKER
A quite but pretty wedding was celebrated in St. Aidan's Church of England,
Natimuk, yesterday, when the Rev Thos. COLE performed the ceremony of tying
the knot which bound together in matrimony Mr. Dudley Gordon MACKAY and Miss
Emily BARKER. Both parties are well known in the West Wimmera. The
bridegroom, who is the son of Mr. T.J.C. MACKAY, of Auburn, now occupies the
position of manager of the Colonial Bank at Wonthaggi, and for some time was
manager of the Goroke branch. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. R. BARKER, of "Waratah," Natimuk and has lived here practically all her
life. The church had been prettily decorated by friends of the bride. As
the bride entered the church on the arm of her father, Miss Elsie BOYD
played "The Voice that breathed o'er Eden" The bride wore a costume of
cream cloth, with a hat of white crepe de chene, lined with black and white
roses. Miss Lily BARKER, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid, and was
attired in white silk, with a small white hat.
As the bridal pair left the church, Miss BOYD played "The Wedding March"
with much expression. Outside the church the bridal pair were met with
showers of confetti.
An adjournment was then made to the residence of the bride's parents, where
a delicious wedding breakfast was in waiting. The Rev. Thos. COLE presided,
and in proposing the toast of the Bride and Bridegroom said he had known the
bride since he came to Natimuk two years ago. She had been actively
associated with the Church and Guild. He was sorry she was going away, but
was pleased to know she was going with a suitable partner. Mr. COLE
concluded by extending the usual congratulations and advise. Mr. A. BARKER
humorously supported the toast. In reply Mr. MACKAY thanked Mr. COLE and
Mr. BARKER for their kind remarks and hoped that he would justify the
confidence reposed in him.
Mr. and Mrs. MACKAY motored to Horsham, where they caught the midday train
en route for Geelong and Lorne. The bride's going away dress was navy crepe
de chene, trimmed with floral silk, with blue hat to match.
MAN IN THE CORNER.
A chiel's amang ye takin' notes an' faith he'll print 'em.
Mr. Alf BARKER was in his best form yesterday at the wedding breakfast. In
supporting the principal toast, he likened marriage unto a besieged city.
Some wanted to get out, and others wanted to get in. For his part he was
prepared to stay in. The bridegroom had said he would be pleased to see any
of his old friends at Wonthaggi. He intended excepting that invitation, and
would take the whole family and spend a month. He was sure Mr. MACKAY would
be delighted. The bridegroom ought to be a happy man. He had had a parson
provided to tie the knot securely, and he had just had a good feed before he
was driven to Horsham.
Have a happy Christmas and a safe New Year
