Regret is expressed at Commonwealth Military Headquarters at news of the
death of Captain A.R.S GARTRELL, who was drowned while bathing in the surf
at Manly on Sunday. Captain GARTRELL was a popular officer, and had done
excellent work in the A.I.F. He was captain commanding the 3rd Signalling
Troop, and having returned from active service, was recently commissioned to
organise a wireless squadron, which he was to command on service abroad.
Captain GARTRELL, who was on a visit to Sydney from Adelaide when his death
took place, was 36 years of age, and was a nephew of Mrs J. CROSS, of
Natimuk. By profession he was a printer, and his 3-colour work had received
commendation in London.
