History
The Loyal Orange Institution was formed in 1795 as an Irish sectarian
and political
society. The Institution seeks to maintain Protestantism and to prevent
Roman Catholic
ascendancy. Essentially a secret society, the Orange Institution
organisation is similar to
that of freemasonry. Lodges were established in Australia from 1849.
