Hi all!
I am trying to find out how a place got it's name. I have googled, checked the PRO of Vic site, State Library site and contacted the Geographic Place Names which is part of the Office of the Surveyor-General of Vic. and the Australian National Placenames Survey. The ANPS have been the most helpful but didn't have anything specific.
I'm looking looking for when and why the area of Cabarita (in NW Vic near Mildura) was named and also why and when Lake Hawthorn, in Cabarita was named.
We have contacted the local council & the water authority, whose records were difficult to access, and the historical societies who also would like to know! We've talked to the local surveyor who looked thru old maps but didn't find anything that gave us any clues. The local library were helpful but haven't got anything that either they or us could find.
Has anyone got any further suggestions?
Chris C.
Mildura, Vic.
