Hi my name is sue and l am looking for a missing person who died 5/1 /1895
Thomas Ackland -Hughs Acklands father moved in with him after Mary Ackland his wife died at Horsham Hospital and it is here that Thomas died on 5/1/1895 aged 85years. Hugh was the local undertaker and even made the coffin.
This how the story went
In 1882 Hugh moved North about 20 miles to Woorak 9 miles North East of Nhill, and took a job with Charles Smith in an area just being cleared and it was not long before he acquired the business.
In 1884 Hugh brother John sold out his property and bought property at Katyol north of Dimboola half way to Jeparit and about three miles east of the Wimmera river and 12 miles from his brother Hugh and they fraternised
frequently.
Now l have to guess where Thomas Ackland is buried.
Can anyone help who knows the region.
There is no death certificate l wish there was
Thomas Ackland was born in Barnstaple Devon, England and sailed to South Australia on the Surry in 1838 with his wife Mary Ackland nee RichardsIn 1876 Thomas left South Australia.
On the 13/4/1877 Thomas applied for Allotment number 15 Parish Of Wail-kalkee, just 4 miles north of his two children. He gave as his previous address Adelaide and Hackham, South Australia
In 1888 Thomas sold his farm at Wail-kalkee East because his wife was confined to a bed for several years and now had to go into hospital at Horsham where she died the next year on January 16th. Meantime Thomas was living with Hugh at Woorak.
Just for interest does anyone have the records for Woorak and was Hugh Ackland an undertaker there.
Any information would be gratefully accepted
Thankyou sue
