Augustus Bostock lived at "Grasmere" homestead, just north of Warrnambool
from c.1853. He wrote this diary until his decease 1920. I have edited up to
c.1880..............Feel free to ask about anyone you are researching, but I
don't promise to know the answer. Thelma

SEPTEMBER 1857.

Tue 1 - Sent load of wheat to W'bool and got back the waggon wheels.
JOHN EMBERLY came out with a load and took in 10 bags of wheat.
Wed 2 - To Rosehill to finish sowing wheat, but it came on wet.
DOWS ? & SNOW'S (Henry Snow) cart came out for lambs, but found them too
small.
Thu 3 - Too wet to plough - Put the waggon on it's wheels.
Fri 4 - ? ? wheels of waggon. Ploughing at Spring Farm. Get firewood.
Sat 5 - To Warrnambool to meeting of Road Board. Stayed all night.
Sun 6 - Home and Ernest (BOSTOCK) came with me.
Mon 7 - Went to Rosehill and killed pig I bought from NICOL (Gilbert).
Tue 8 - Went to Mr.JELLIE'S (James) sale. Then to Warrnambool.
Wed 9 - Went out with PARKER (Samuel) and ALLAN (Wm. ?) to select the best
line for TRAMWAY. Got home cattle bought at JELLIE'S.
Thu 10 - look for new steer I bought at JELLIE'S (James JELLIE).
Fri 11 - Went to Rosehill to see how painters were getting on.
Sat 12 - Grafted some stocks - dressed the rams - thrashed wheat.
Mon 14 - Plant first potatoes - dressed rams - CLARKE'S boy came.
Tue 15 - Thrashed wheat to make room for stock.
Wed 16 - Moved stack to shed. Tom (Thos BOSTOCK) to W'bool.
Thu 17 - Tom (BOSTOCK), Lucy (AITKIN) and Ernest (BOSTOCK) came out. Got
home the reaping machine.
Fri 18 - Went to Rosehill. Commenced planting potatoes.
Sat 19 - To Warrnambool to meetting of Road Board. Stay all night.
Mon 21 - Cut firewood - too wet to plant - Sent Tomy in to be shod.
Tue 22 - Harrow potato ground. Cut potatoes. Got home 2 cows that calved.
Turned STRANGERS out of SPRING FARM.
Wed 23 - Plant potatoes at Spring farm and went to Rosehill.
Thu 24 - Went to Warrnambool to a BALL. Plant potatoes at Rosehill.
Fri 25 - Plant potatoes at Springs. Stay in W'bool to hear BARLOW
(MR.BARLOW - TRAMWAY)
Sat 26 - Stay in town and had a game of CRICKET. Went to CONCERT. Cart split
stuff to fence Spring Farm. Home Sunday.
Mon 28 - Went to Rosehill. Jane (Catherine Jane MACKERSEY wife of Thomas
BOSTOCK) came out by the dray from Warrnambool.
Painting outside of house. Cleaning away straw ready to plant potatoes.
Tue 29 - Cut two logs for rollers - cart split stuff. Went to Warrnambool to
a party at PLUMMERS (William PLUMMER)
Wed 30 - Home and Lucy (AITKIN) came out with us. Cart split stuff.
Put the fence next to the lane in order.
