Dear Listers (on 3 separate lists),

My grandfather William Peter JEFFERY (born May 1867 and raised perhaps in
the Geelong District) was reputed to have a brother who was a JOCKEY. This
would probably have been in the 1870-1920 period I guess.

Can someone please help me get started in searching for jockeys of this
surname.
- Did they have to be registered?
- Were the successful ones at least written up in the papers of the time.
- When did a central racing authority get established?
- etc, etc.
