Hi all

Just a story to add to the Queenie the elephant discussion. My mother, who
is 88 is staying with us at the moment says that the elephant at the
Melbourne Zoo was called Queenie.
She remembers an incident many years ago when she was about nine. Her family
had gone on a day trip to the zoo with an uncle who was a late teenager.
They were having their lunch in the picnic ground. This was enclosed with a
wooden fence. The elephant ride went around the outside of this enclosure
and it was common for the picnicers to put food on the posts for the
elephant to eat as it came past.
Her uncle, Alec, put some food out..but being a 'smart Alec' just as the
elephant was about to take it he snatched it away. Well, so far so good.
Some time later they decided to go for a ride themselves. Mum and her
brother climbed up the steps to the seats on the elephant and were at the
back. Alec then got on last so he was at the front. As soon as he sat down
Queenie swung her trunk around and over his head and srayed water all over
him. He was drenched! And I say.good on you Queenie!
Seems elephants do have a good memory.

Have a great day
