Just a few snippets of useless info to some..
Yes, there is a "Quamby" in the Western District, which was owned
by
the Lindsay Family many years ago now.. It is very near the
property "Coomete" where Augustus Bostock lived..
Two of Bostock's daughters married 2 Lindsay lads.."Way back
then".

"Quamby" in Tasmania is between Hadspen and Westbury,
which is west of Launceston.
Just put the name into Google maps and see what comes up.
Just notes from a book.
Robert Mackenzie Ayre leased 1825 acres of Sir Richard Dry's
"Quamby" near Hagley, after his death until its sale in 1875.
James Alfred Dunn was executor of Sir Richard Dry's estate.
Dry was a premier of Tasmania.
Gellibrand made an offer of £40,000 for "Quamby" in c1873 and it
was
refused. Lady Dry was offered a price to sell the year before.
Jany.1875. As Ayre leaves the property his furniture and stock
is advertised to be sold 18th-19th Feb.
1875. Lady Dry returns and Hy Reed has made her a liberal
offer for "Quamby". The "Quamby" estate is offered for sale by
auction in April 1875.
May 1875 Lady Dry leaves for England and will have little left
from the sale after paying her husband's debts.......
Later in May the diarist says 11,800 acres sold for £60,000 in one
lot
In 1878 - The first meeting of any Coursing Club took place at
"Quamby" yesterday.
In 1882 "Quamby" is to be sold in small lots as one owner is dead.
The property has given a poor net return.
It was the name of a property back then, but others would know
if it is called locality in 2008.
Just near there is Bishopsbourne, where Augustus Bostock
went to primary school. Does anyone know which school this would
be ?
He was born 1833 so, the school would have to be operating around
1838 and more...
Sincerely in Searching... Thelma (Bostock) Birrell Maroochydore.
