Hello Judy
David William LEE does not appear to have been in the Navy in WW1, he was in the 1st Light Horse Brigade, enlisted at Ararat, served at Gallipoli, wounded, contracted enteric fever and repatriated back to Australia.
He has a 100 page file in the National Archives relating to WW1 service.
He signed for the last of his 3 medals in Apr 1922 at Victoria Barracks, St Kilda Road (Melbourne), so he was still alive at that time.
Regards
Daryl Povey

Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT] David William LEE, Etc.
Hi All,
I am hoping I can find a fellow researcher for the following family/ families or sks may be able to help me further.
David William LEE the son of William Henry LEE and Delia O'Donoghue was born at New Thebarton. S.A on 5 December 1891
His Father died in about 1899 ( unable to find his Death in S.A. or Victoria, though.)
Unless this one is him??
William Henry LEA ( spelling) died 1-11-1896 Status N. aged 29 years ( age would be about right, as he was aged 24 years when he married in 1890 to Delia)
Residence/ Death Place Robe. S.A He is buried at Robe Cemetery.
David William LEE joined the Navy in WWW1 on 28 Nov 1914 ( according to the WWW1 Nominal Roll.) and his Occupation,Electrician and Mechanic.
He was single and his next of Kin was shown as Mrs W. Matthews, Nhill Victoria. He returned to Australia 20 Oct 1915 and then he seemed to have 'disappeared off the radar'
His Mother remarried in August 1907 at Nhill Vic aged 36 years and a widow, she married William George MATTHEWS, Delia was shown on the Marriage Certificate to have one deceased child, I found him in S.A. and two surviving children, one being David and unable to find a birth in S.A. for the other child.
William George MATTHEWS died at Ballarat Benevolent Home on 19 Sept 1923, but can't seem to find Delia's death at all, she was born about 1870/1871 at Kapunda S.A. according to the Marriage Certificate, Delia the daughter of David O'Donoghue and Bridget nee McCarthy
Hoping sks can please help me further with these ' mysteries'
Many thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Judy of S.A.
