Subject: [AUS-VIC-WESTERN-DISTRICT] Milltown History
Hi Listers
RE: My Great, Great Grandparents Richard PRICE and wife Jane (nee
DRINKWATER).
Richard PRICE was a pioneer sawmill owner at Milltown near Heywood. He
established the sawmill around 1863
and it continued there for many years as well as operating or in partnership
with other mills as well. I believe most of his sons
worked at the mill as either millhands or log haulers, some later opening
their own sawmills.
I wonder where I might find more info about Milltown and the sawmilling
industry in the 1800's. I have been told there had been plans
for a township at Milltown in the late 1800's and wonder whether there would
be any info or maps of the proposed township or the landholders
in the area at that time.
Regards
Lynne Price
