Hi Judy,
I couldn't let this one pass. It may be just a co-incidence but I used to
work for a firm called Evan Evans, flag makers in Elizabeth Street,
Melbourne. The company was founded by a person called Evan Evans. There
was a son called Evan and one called Ivor. There may be a connection with
your Evan Evans and mine. I worked there in the 1960's.
Your Evans family were
Edward 1857 Castlemaine, David 1859 Brown Digs, Sarah Jean 1859
Muckelsfield, Ann 1861 Smythesdale, Margaret Anna 1863 Blac...., Elizabeth
1864 Scarsdale, William 1866 Smythesdale, Janet 1868 Smythesdale, Morgan
1869 Smythesdale, Thomas 1872 Smythesdale, John 1874 Smythesdale.
Their mother was Ann GRIFFITHS. I found her death as 1911 Ballarat age 72.
On looking in the Ballarat New Cemetery I found Evan buried with her. He
died July 1878 and was living at Sebastopol. age 38. On the death index it
says that her was born GLAM son of John EVANS & Ann LEWIS. Evan was a miner.
Ann was living in Elsternwick when she died.
Cheers,
