I bought/downloaded the image for Ruby's birth entry, and I can definitely
read "Ruby Augusta W_________________ Alice". Cannot figure out what the W
word is. It doesn't look very much like either of the transcriptions. I
haven't yet been able to chase (find) the father through the censuses to
see if this be a family name on his side. It is not a family name on the
mother's side.
Is there anyone out there to whom I could send off-list the image of her
name to have a go at guessing what it might be?

Yes Marie, it does sound very much like a transcription error, and I am
unaware of any "meaning" for Wiamana. A Google search did turn up a couple
of Maori references, so the previous message from Julia may be spot on.
