I was reading an article a while back about this. So this is off the top of
my head...if anyone knows different feel free to correct me.

There is Irwin Barracks in Nedlands (or Karrakatta) and Campbell Barracks in
Swanbourne. Both of these might be referred to as Claremont. There was
also Buckland Hill barracks & Fremantle Artillery barracks (I think this is
right) and they 'might have' been classed as Claremont as they are
relatively close, but I think Buckland Hill was closed before 1917...though
I think Fremantle was still operational. Buckland Hill is now an up-market
residential area. The Special Air Service Regiment was established at the
Campbell Barracks in Swanbourne in 1957. There was talk about Fremantle
being sold I think. As far as I am aware...Swanbourne and Irwin are still
kicking...though Swanbourne may be the older of the 2.

If your looking for the 44th Battalion, in the 3rd Division of the
Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in World War 1, I think they may have
trained at Fremantle. If this is the one, I am pretty sure it was going to
be kept for heritage listing as a museum even if sold.

Good luck!

and moving accounts of other members of this battalion, their stories or
diaries made available on websites. But so far, I have found little to tell
me if Claremont Camp still exists. Is it the Claremont which is a suburb of
Perth? What might I consult to find out more of what it was like as a
military establishment back in the period 1914-18?
