Hi again Karen
Further to my last email, if you go to the Australian War Memorial Site, and
go into 'Biographical databases', & then 'Roll of Honour database'...do a
search for Fairbeard, you will be able to click on a 'Circular information'
icon (need acrobat reader as is a PDF file). This is a form filled out by
deceased soldiers relative, with all sorts of interesting info. In this
case it has Charles date of birth & place, trade, previous military
experience, schooling etc, but also has parents address & fathers military
history of service. Pretty interesting.

Through this site you can also search for photo's, WW1 nominal roll etc etc.
this is the link http://www.awm.gov.au/index_noflash.asp

Also, have you looked at the national Archives site at
http://www.naa.gov.au/
Go into 'recordsearch', follow prompts & login as 'Guest', ...a search
brings up a reference to Charles service documents. You can apply to have
them put online for free. It takes a few months but is well worth it.
This will include his attestation papers that he filled out to join up etc.
:0)

Hope this will be of some help.

Regards

Shelley
