September or early October for past residents of Bourke, NSW and their
families who have "migrated" to WA (or who just happen to be in Perth on

BERRYHILLS PRIMARY SCHOOL : Berryhills Primary School, once situated on
the Great Eastern Highway between Clackline and Northam, operated from 1911
to 1920. A history of the area is being catalogued to be
published. Seeking names of former pupils, teachers, stories and

CORBETT : Descendants of James CORBETT are sought by New Zealand
relatives. According to an old letter from James, he arrived in WA in
September 1853 and married about five years later (name unknown). His
children included John and Michael (who worked on stations in the
North-West), James (an accountant with Perth City Council), Tam (a
blacksmith in Fremantle), Patrick, Joe (a clerk in the railway
department), and a married daughter. Does this family ring any

COUNTRY CALLING
ALDERSYDE PIONEER CHURCH : Anyone who has had any connections to this
church is invited to 50th anniversary celebrations to be held on the

WANNAMAL PRIMARY SCHOOL : A time capsule buried on the school's closure
in 1984 will be opened on the weekend of October 9-10. Program includes a
barbecue tea on Saturday (BYO and salad to share), followed by
entertainment. On Sunday, the opening of the time capsule and heritage
centre will be held at loam with morning tea afterwards. BYO picnic
lunch. At 2pm you can leave a message in the new time capsule to be

CLARKSON : Thomas and Sarah CLARKSON (nee HALLAM) arrived in WA in
1856. Their son William was born that year and was christened at Glen Gary
Station, Geraldton. William married Sarah McGUINESS in 1875 and they had
eight children, all born in
Geraldton: William, Margaret, Sarah, Edward, John, Annie, Winifred,
and Michael. Does anyone know what became of their grandparents Thomas
and Sarah? No record of their deaths has been found. Contact: Wendy

DUNCAN : Second cousin seeking the family of Charlie and Amy DUNCAN and
their daughter Nola. Charlie and Amy died in the Perth area in 1983 aid
1977. Amy was born in the UK about 1905, the daughter of William and Amy

FAMILY REUNIONS
CURTIS : A reunion for descendants of pioneer William CURTIS will be held
at the Jeff Joseph Reserve, Applecross, on Sunday October 3 at
11am. William married twice, first Caroline SMITH in 1840 (son Thomas
born 1840), then Elizabeth Smithy in 1852. William and Elizabeth had
four children (Rebecca, Rachel, Elizabeth Ann, and John). The family
left Abergavenny in Wales in 1857 and sailed to South Australia on the
Caucasian. Three more children were born, James (1859), Esther (1862),
and Charles (1863). Many descendants are now in WA and surnames include
BERTRAM, BEHN, BROWNRIGG, CHANDLER, ELSE, HOLMAN, DITCHBURN, and

MOODY : Descendants of Sydney and Annie MOODY (nee PEARCE) are sought by
their cousins in
England and America who are compiling a family history. Sydney and Annie
arrived in WA from England about 1926 and lived in Perth. Children
included: Annie, Gladys, Irene, Sidney, Audrey, Thomas, and possibly
Ronny. Annie died in 1945 aged 51 and Sydney died in 1975 aged 86.

MUNRO : Calling MUNRO, MUNROE, MONRO, or MONROE families from

NEWICK : Seeking descendants of Mr and Mrs William (Bill) NEWICK, who
lived at 39 Hutt Street, Mt Lawley, in 1958. Mrs NEWICK was possibly
Annie Edith. Bill was a returned serviceman who visited Ashburton, New
Zealand, in 1958 where he took part in the Anzac Day parade. Annie Edith
NEWICK died in East Fremantle in 1976 aged 83 and William Walter NEWICK
died in Mt Lawley in
1961 aged 68. Hoping to clarify the names and hear from their

PERTH BUILT VEHICLES : A couple of hearsay stories suggest that since the
early days individuals in WA may have planned to manufacture a car in Perth
to sell in numbers to the populous (not referring to Lord Nuffield's idea
of making Morris cars in Maylands) or home-made "specials" (homebuilt
sports cars, kit cars, rod hots or restored "vintage" cars). Only one
truck, the Rhodes-Ridley, is known to have been manufactured in Perth, but
perhaps there was another one. All help and photographs appreciated for
publications on historic cars and commercial vehicles in Perth. Contact:

SQUIRES : Information is sought about grandmother Mabel Josephine DOWELL
who married Frederick Sydney SQUIRES in Geraldton on January 2,

SWAN : The writer is researching her father's cousins, twin
sisters, Margaret and Phoebe SWAN, who were born in Boulder in
1944. They never married and are thought to have started a school in
Perth, possibly in the 1920s or 1930s. Margaret died in Claremant in 1989

VOLUNTARY FIELD RESEARCH : The VOC Historical Society (Dutch East India
Company) is looking for young persons interested in indigenous people or a
person of Aboriginal descent to participate in some archival, but mostly
field, research - on a voluntary basis - relating to pre-colonial contact
by Aboriginals with shipwrecked Dutch sailors in the 17th and 18th
centuries. There are no set hours. The purpose of this investigation of
known clues is to complete WA history, which began 154 years before
