CATHOLIC POLICE MASS : Serving and former members
of police are advised that Mass will be
celebrated at Trinity College chapel, Trinity
Avenue, East Perth on Thursday, September 29, at
7pm. This coincides with the feast of St Michael
the Archangel, patron saint of police. It is also
National Police Remembrance Day, a day set aside
to remember colleagues who died while performing
their duties. Supper will follow. Please RSVP for

COUNTRY CALLING
BUNBURY HOSPITAL : Former workers at the Bunbury
Regional Hospital (or Stirling Hospital as it was
previously known) are invited to a reunion to be
held at the Parade Hotel, Bunbury, on Tuesday,
November 8, at noon. Cost: $18 a person
(two-course meal). All staff are encouraged to
attend, not just nursing staff. Confirm numbers

ST PAT'S AND STELLA MARIS (GERALDTON) : Past
students are invited to a reunion for any of the
years of the class that started Year 8 in 1976
and completed Year 12 in 1980. The reunion will
involve a number of events over the weekend of
September 24-25. Family and friends are also
invited to attend including a dinner on Saturday
night (dinner cost $20 a head, no door sales):

FAMILY REUNIONS
GILL : A reunion for descendants of Rev. Samuel
GILL, who arrived in SA with wife Winifred (nee
OKE) aboard the Caroline in 1839 along with sons,
Samuel Thomas and John Ryland GILL, will be held
in Donnybrook on Saturday, September 24. Samuel
Thomas was to become a famous Australian painter.
His brother John and wife Janet (THOMPSON) had
eight children including Ryland Oke GILL who
married Emma MILLER. They came to WA with
children John Samuel and George RYLAND, where a
third son, Douglas Oke, was born in Kunanalling.
Ryland's second marriage was to Linda CHADWICK.
Their children were John Stanley, Muriel
Josephine (m. HUGHES), Ryland Edwin and Richard

MILES : English kinfolk visiting Perth in October
would love to hear from the family of Guildford
couple Albert Matthew MILES and wife Kathleen.
Albert died in Perth in 1978 aged 86. Kathleen
died in 1966. Their children were Trevor, Paul,
Ronald and Delys. The writer and husband will be
staying in Perth at the Parmelia Hilton from

MODEL T FORDS : A public meeting to discuss the
formation of a Model T Ford owners club (section)
within the Veteran Car Club of WA will be held at
the VCC clubrooms, corner Hale Road and Tonkin
Highway, Wattle Grove, on Thursday, September 15,
at 8pm. If you are one of the many Model T Ford
(1909-1927) enthusiasts with a restored or

SOUTH PERTH HISTORICAL SOCIETY : The society's
next event at the Old Mill Theatre, Mends Street,
South Perth, will be held on Monday, September
19, at 7pm. Guest speaker Arthur Allen STILES
will talk about the STILES OF SOUTH PERTH the
family that brought movies to South Perth. The
STILES' family picture theatre dynasty continues
today. The family also has direct ancestry to
early South Perth pioneering families TONDUT and

STEPHENS : Seeking Geoffrey Edward STEPHENS. He
was a member of the Department of Civil Aviation
survey team which marked out the property
acquisition areas at Cocos (Keeling) Islands
during 1950-51. The group was led by licensed surveyor Brian MEEHAN along with

TIN HARE RAIL CAR : Furthering research on the
history of the Loopline Railway in Boulder, the
writer is seeking information about the 'TIN
HARE" rail car that operated during the 1960s
particularly where it was shipped off to. Also
hoping to hear from "Mitzi" (surname unknown) a
small child who survived being run over by a
train in Boulder most probably the Loopline or
mines train. This incident occurred at Dunlop's
Crossing near Wittenoom or Clancy Street Does
anyone know Mitzi and her story? Contact: Meagan

WORKSHOP IN AUSTRALIND : Harvey History Online
will hold a workshop at Settlers Hall, Marine
Drive, Settlers Estate, Australind, on Sunday,
October 2 at lpm (registration 12.30pm). Elaine
GREEN will present a hands-on workshop to give
you the skills to prepare, interview and store
memories in audio form. This will be a great
opportunity to start your family history search.

ARMED SERVICES
BROWN : Pte Samuel Royston BROWN (3128) served in
World War I with the 51st Battalion 8RFTS. His
mother was Elizabeth BROWN of 22 Rowland Street,
Subiaco. Samuel BROWN was with Ernest JACKSON
(11th Battalion) when Ernest was awarded the
Military Medal. Seeking a photograph of Samuel to
be included in a frame as a tribute with photos
already to hand of Ernest and his brother Harry
Melmouth Jackson (16th Bn, KIA August 6, 1916).

DENMARK PROJECT/BOWMAN : Descendants of the
BOWMAN family who were living at Parry's via
Denmark during World War I are sought Mr Bowman
was left a block of land by Frederick Walter
WYMAN when he was killed in France in 1916 while

DISABILITY CLAIMS : The Outreach Program of the
Vietnam Veterans Federation (NSW branch) will be
coming to WA early in 2006. Their aim is to help
veterans from World War II, Korea, Malaya,
Borneo, South Vietnam, Somalia, Cambodia, Rwanda,
Gulf War, Iraq etc. (disability claims), also war
widows, MCRS, VEA and all matters dealing with
entitlements and assessments. Anybody who
served any time with the Department of Defence
who think they need to submit a claim is
encouraged to respond. The group also does
appeals for VRB and AAT. Their service is free
(they survive on their memberships). Contact:

JERRAMUNGUP HONOUR BOARD : Jerramungup returned
personnel will unveil an honour board on Sunday,
October 9, during the 50th anniversary
celebrations of the start of the War Service Land
Settlement Scheme. It will honour all the men and
women from the Shire of Jerramungup who have
enlisted in the Australian Defence Forces since
1955. Can anyone confirm the enlistment of C.R.
(Colin) NEWINGTON and J. (John) WHITEAKER and/or
know of their whereabouts? Also seeking names and
details of anyone else who enlisted to serve with
the ADF from the Shire of Jerramungup since 1955
